Waves and Particles, 2020, detail

The landscape is a temporary state of a dynamic and fluctuating environment. I try to convey a sense of the physical structure of landscapes, both grand and quantum, in the choice of compositions and in the application of paint. I strive to see the landscape as a model for the structure and changing state of our physical reality. Light and atmosphere is fundamental in landscape paitning, but there is also energy present in the subjects themselves.

A re-introduction to philosophy has made me more aware of our nearly universal involuntary attraction and reaction to various landscapes. I am guided to my subjects by our emotional connections to our physical environment and speculate on the reasons those shared connections exist.
